Regulation (EU) Nº 1379/2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 December 2013 on the common organisation of the markets in fishery and aquaculture products, amending Council Regulations (EC) Nº 1184/2006 and (EC) Nº 1224/2009 and repealing Council Regulation (EC) Nº 104/2000 regulates in its Chapter IV information to the consumer, establishing in its Article 37 the obligation of the Member States to draw up and publish a list of accepted commercial names in their respective territories together with their scientific names.

Article 37 also provides that any change to the list of commercial names accepted by a Member State in its territory must be notified immediately to the Commission, which shall inform the other Member States thereof.

During 2016, new species have been marketed in the Spanish market, but there have also been simplified and modified some of the species in the list. In consequence it has been necessary to revise the old list published in the Resolución de 28 de marzo de 2016, de la Secretaría General de Pesca, por la que se establece y se publica el listado de denominaciones comerciales de especies pesqueras y de acuicultura admitidas en España, al objeto de incluir la totalidad de cambios habidos y aprobados por la Subdirección General de Economía Pesquera.

Due to all above mentioned a new list of the commercial denomination of permitted fishing and aquaculture species in Spain has been established within the annex of that disposition.
Is it important to take into account that the commercial name will be considered as an official name throughout the national territory. However, the different meanings of the commercial names that appear in the list and that have been recognized by the Autonomous Communities will be complementary to that one.

Our Consulting Department can support every company who needs to review their labels in order to ensure the correct adaptation to the new regulation.
