In November, the European Commission and China concluded negotiations for a bilateral agreement to protect 100 European geographical indications (GI) in China and 100 Chinese indications in the European Union from imitations and usurpations.
The purpose of the agreement is to guarantee mutual commercial advantages by providing for an increase in demand for high-quality products on both sides. China is the second destination of European agri-food exports with a volume of 12.8 billion euros in the period September 2018-August 2019.
The agreement is now being examined by the European Parliament and the Council for final approval, and the date of entry into force is expected by the end of 2020.
