Latvia - Draft to regulate the circulation of seeds
Administrative responsibility introduced
Last April, the Ministry of Agriculture proposed a new law for the circulation of seeds in the local market, imposing administrative responsibility for any violation of the requirements for marketability. The draft also explains the functions of State phytosanitary service, the procedure for registration of seed farmers and the removal from the register of seed farmers and seed traders, as well as the rules relating to the creation of the catalog and the list of varieties.
The draft will come into force after its approval by Parliament and its publication in the Official Journal.
