“Communicating quality. Food labeling: obligations and opportunities for agri-businesses” - free seminar in Rome
On September 28, at the Sala Tevere of the Regione Lazio (Via Cristoforo Colombo, 212), a free seminar “Comunicare la qualità - Etichettatura degli alimenti: obblighi e opportunità per le imprese agroalimentari” (Communicating quality. Food labeling: obligations and opportunities for agri-businesses) will be held. It is organized by the Labeling and Regulatory dept. of Mérieux NutriSciences Italy with FOSAN Services S.r.l. with the sponsorship of the Regione Lazio, the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Health and in collaboration with the magazine on nutrition sciences “Journal Food Science and Nutrition”.
The meeting starts at 9.15 a.m. with registrations of participants and a welcome coffee. At 9.30 a.m., participants will be welcomed by Carlo Hausmann (Council member for Agriculture of the Regione Lazio), Giuseppe Parisi (Mérieux NutriSciences) and F.M. Bucarelli (FOSAN S.r.l.). The first session hosts Massimo Buonavita (Mérieux NutriSciences| Labeling and Regulatory) who will discuss the “Food labeling in Italy and the EU: the scope of Regulation 1169/2011 and national legislations”. The report analyzes how the labeling of Italian food has changed after the coming into force of EU Regulation: how to make labels for EU market, which categories and issues still are at the discretion of the Member State and some brief notes on the major non-European markets (US, Canada, Russia, India, Brazil, China).
After the coffee break, at 11.10, Francesca Vincenzi (Mérieux NutriSciences| Labeling and Regulatory) will deliver a speech on “Regulated and non-regulated claims: sensory, nutrition, health, and ingredients claims. Provability and sustainability”. The report deals with the necessary requirements to boast differentiating properties of foods, such as health claims and labeling and offers a general overview on communication as for products in EU markets and the major extra-EU markets.
At 12.00 p.m., companies can ask questions; at 1 p.m. business lunch. The second session in the afternoon, opens at 2.00 p.m. with the Round Table organized by Paolo Aureli, Francesco M. Bucarelli, Agostino Macri, Nicolò Merendino and Angela Iapello on “Labeling: information and compliance. The semantics of quality requirements”. It will end at 5.45 p.m.
