Indonesia – New rules for GM food products
Last May, the Indonesian food and drugs control agency published a new regulation in the Official Gazette with guidelines for the assessment of food safety of genetically modified products produced, marketed and distributed on national soil.
The new regulation establishes that GMO food before being distributed in Indonesia will be subject to the safety approval issued by the head of the Agency in the form of GMO food safety certificate. The regulation also impacts the labeling of such foods. However, producers have 12 months to comply with the legislation.
