Italy – Agreement with Singapore to protect 36 Italian PGIs
A fundamental legal tool to safeguard consumers and manufacturers
In the framework of the procedure of entry into force of the free trade agreement between the EU and Singapore, a recent Press release of the Italian Ministry of Agriculture announces that Italy obtained the registration and the protection of 36 Protected Geographical Indications by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS).
This is a very important agreement for the Italian agri-food system since it makes a legal instrument available to defend the geographical indications against fakes (“Italian sounding”) that damage both Italian producers and also local consumers.
