- History -
In 1967, John Silliker inaugurates the first laboratory dedicated to food microbiological analysis. At the end of the 90s, the Institut Mérieux acquires Silliker and the expansion project begins: it will lead to the birth of Mérieux NutriSciences whose target is the development and the supply of services and global solutions to safeguard consumers’ health.
With its headquarters in Chicago, Mérieux Nutrisciences gained brand awareness and prestige in food safety and quality. The Food sector is the first that trusted Mérieux NutriSciences’ skills: the Company thus widened its expertise in other industrial sectors such as the agrochemicalsector , environmental services, pharmaceuticals and medical devices, consumer goods , cosmetics.
The growth occurred in recent years led the Group to be present in more than 20 countries with more than 80 labs offering analytical and consultancy services, auditing, training, contract research and sensory analyses.
In 2014, Mérieux Nutrisciences Italia –with 6 branches and more than 800 employees–acquired Total Quality Food (already operating since 1992), making it its Food Compliance Solutions Department.
- The Staff -
The team includes around 45 people in 5 European seats (France, Italy, Poland, Portugal and Spain). The roots of our legal, scientific and linguistic skills are well consolidated after more than 20 years: this means a multi-disciplinary and multi-sector consultancy activity.
The three technical departments cooperate with Customer Care and a team dedicated to Subscription Services.
In more than 20 countries, a network of experts is available to supply customers with a consultancy project even in the markets where a Mérieux Nutrisciences branch is not present.
The Food Compliance Solutions Department offers regulatory and product consultancy to companies of the agri-food, consumer goods and cosmetics sectors.

- Regulatory skills: staff qualified in legal and technical subjects dealing with regulatory monitoring aimed at checking possible updates published in the relevant sectors.
Specialized consultancy - Regulatory opinions - Support in product and label conformity.
- Linguistic skills: graduates in foreign languages, linguistics/translation and mother tongue consultants deal with product and label conformity in particular for multi-country labels.
Technical and legal translation skills of label wordings according to the legislation of the target country.
- Scientific skills: graduates in technical and scientific disciplines offer targeted consultancy on product and label conformity.
Drafting of nutritional tables (from analytical or scientific data) – Check of (hygiene, health, chemical, physical, etc.) product parameters – Check of regulatory requisites – Creation and update of product technical data sheets.
