Portugal - ASAE supervises own-made bakeries and pastries
The Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) carried out, from the north to the south of the country, actions aimed at bakeries and pastries with its own manufacture to comply with the rules of exercise of activity as well as food hygiene and food labeling. As a balance of the actions carried out during 2019, around 655 economic operators were inspected, with 7 criminal proceedings and 175 administrative offense proceedings being initiated.
The main criminal offenses include fraud on goods, the use of counterfeit or imitated brands, the illegal use of designations of origin or geographical indications, among others. The main breaches of administrative offenses include non-compliance with general and specific hygiene requirements, the absence of a process or processes based on HACCP principles, the existence of a process or processes based on HACCP principles, the lack of mere prior communication, violation the general duties of the operating entity of the restaurant and beverage establishment, the lack of prices for goods, the start of operation of a type 3 industrial establishment and the lack of metrological control.
