Portugal – New local legislation for dairy products
The Legislation published in Portugal on 9th of June, lay down the rules on the composition, labeling, provision of information to the consumer and marketing of milk, products derived from milk and products extracted from milk. The main topics approached by the Decree-Law 62/2017 are:
- Rules of application of the indication of the origin of milk and milk used as an ingredient in milk products (Mandatory labelling of milk and milk used as an ingredient in dairy products, etc.);
- Rules of application of the identification of caseins and caseinates or products containing caseins and caseinates (Compulsory m on the label of caseins and caseinates or products containing caseins and caseinates, etc.);
- Rules of application of the composition, labeling, advertising and marketing of infant formulae and follow-on formulae;
- Rules of application of the designation and labeling of certain partly or wholly dehydrated preserved milk;
- Sanctions framework.
This Decree-Law entered into force on the 1st July 2017.
