Japan - Standards and Guidelines on quoting rice flour published in the “Monthly Report on Rice”
In recent years, the demand for rice as the main food has dropped by about 8 tons per year, while the demand for gluten-free rice flour is expected to increase.
This year, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has established the “Standard for the use of rice flour” and the “Guidelines on the distribution of rice flour by-products”.
Both documents were published in the “Monthly Report on Rice” last May.
As for the Standard, rice flour is divided into three types and methods of analysis were established while the Guidelines provide instructions to claim the absence of gluten in products derived from rice flour.
The Ministry expects these new indications to increase the knowledge and sales of rice flour and ensure its quality.
