Poland - Food products enriched with vitamins and/or minerals
Foods can be enriched with vitamins and minerals or with other substances that have a nutritional or physiological effect. Issues concerning addition of vitamins and minerals are regulated in several provisions of both EU and national.
EU regulation no. 1925/2006 establishes requirements for the addition of vitamins and minerals, among others its minimum amounts, vitamin formulations and mineral substances which may be added to foods as well as foods to which these substances may not be added.
In addition enriched foods marketing on the Polish territory (not present on other EU markets) must comply with Polish Regulation of the Minister of Health of 16 September 2010 on enriching substances added to food, especially as to the maximum amounts of vitamins and/or minerals, what is not defined in EU regulation, and the minimum amounts. Polish legislation defines also, among others food products which enriching in vitamins and or/minerals is obligatory.
It should be remembered that enriched foods subject to special labeling and that its marketing on the Polish territory shall be notified to the Chief Sanitary Inspector.
