European Soy Declaration signed

A step toward the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
Mérieux NutriSciences_legumes

This month 14 European ministers signed the European Soy Declaration in Brussels. This document grants the cooperation between European states in promoting the cultivation of protein crops (legumes such as soy, broad beans, peas and lupins, and clover species such as alfalfa). These crops provide high-quality proteins which are important for a balanced diet. At the same time, the cultivation of pulses helps a positive carbon balance, improves soil fertility and contributes to the sustainable use of biological and genetic diversity.
This Declaration makes an important contribution towards the implementation of the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development promoted by the United Nations.

European signatory countries commit to direct consumers to GMO-free food and feed and to promote transparent labeling systems based on production standards certified as "Europe Soya".
