Japan - New food products protected as GI
Meat, fish, potatoes and wheat included in the list
The Japanese "Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Fisheries" has recently announced that four new food products were recently added to the "Japan Geographical Indication (GI)" protection system.
These food products are: "Hiba Gyu" (beef meat), "Toyoshima Tachiuo" (fish), "Ibuki Soba" (buckwheat) and "Imakane Danshaku" (potatoes).
In Japan, the "protection of geographical indication" (GI) system was established to protect food, agriculture, forestry and fishery products that are produced following a traditional method.
