Japan - Regulations for milk in liquid form for babies are expected
Currently, in Japan, there is no production or marketing of milk in liquid form for babies as no legislation has ever been published. In recent years, however, the demand for this product has increased both to cope with emergency moments, such as earthquakes or other natural disasters, and to have available an additional food for feeding babies.
On March 12 a meeting of the "Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare" proposed a draft standard for milk in liquid form for new-borns, but now it is also necessary to establish a standard to rule the indication for “Food for special purposes". On May 15, 2018, the "Consumer Affairs Agency" decided that a public discussion to define this standard will be soon opened.
