EFSA re-evaluated risk for microorganisms and GM plants

EFSA: Evaluation of existing guidelines for the food and feed risk assessment of microorganisms and GM plants obtained through synthetic biology

Synthetic biology is a discipline that involves the application of science, technology and engineering to design, produce and modify the genetic material of living organisms such as bacteria, plants, yeast etc.EFSA has launched two open consultations on two draft scientific opinions on evaluation of the adequacy of existing guidelines for the risk assessment of food and feed from genetically modified microorganisms and genetically modified plants obtained through synthetic biology. 

The outcome of the consultations will be made public in conjunction with the publication of the scientific output.Interested parties are invited to submit their comments by March 16, 2022.
