South Korea - Caution when purchasing foreign food directly through the Internet
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety of South Korea (MFDS) collected and examined 106 products that expressed dietary effects (67), sexual function improvement (23), and muscle strengthening (16). As a result, they announced that 20 products have detected harmful substances that cannot be used for food.
Information of 20 products that detected harmful substances was provided to the KCS (Korea Customs Service) to be blocked at the customs clearance stage, in addition they asked the Korea Communications Standards Commission to block the site so that it cannot be purchased through the Internet. Among the hazardous substances detected, 10 of the products that were effective on diet were Cascara sagrada and Sennoside. Yohimbine, Icariin, and Tadalafil were detected in 10 products that are effective in improving sexual function. Therefore, the MFDS warned that products purchased directly from overseas via the Internet do not go through the government’s safety inspection, so they may contain harmful substances and require special attention.
